About the Department
Civil Engineering is considered to be the most versatile branch among all the engineering branches. It is the branch with a lot of diversity from geo technical sciences to structural engineering, environmental to hydraulics, transportation to hydrology; Civil Engineering considered as a single largest branch among all the engineering branches.
In TCET the Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 2006 with the intake of 60 students. Due to pressure of more students we increased the intake into 90 within a couple of years. So far, most of them have been well placed in high profile companies and government departments.
The P.G course in M.E (Structural Engineering) has been affiliated to our collegefrom 2013-2014. Our department has continuously conducted many National and International Technical Seminar,
Technical Symposia, workshops etc., for motivating the students and induce them for participating in the event.
Our Faculties have participated in many Development programmes and National and International level conferences to update their knowledge the Latest trends and developments in the Technology and Engineering field and thereby sharing their Knowledgewith the students.
We have an upgraded Lab infrastructure with modern facilities, as per the Anna University curriculum which helps the students to gain practical exposures and to meet the technical requirements in their subjects.
Objectives
- To bring out graduates : who have a strong foundation of scientific and technical knowledge and are equipped with problem solving, teamwork, and communication skills that will serve them throughout their career;
- Graduates who have the ability to pursue careers as practicing civil engineers;
- Graduates who have the ability to pursue advanced studies in all the grids of Civil Engineering
- Our graduates will be capable of building their own careers and influence people by virtue of their effective communication, leadership, team spirit, problem solving and decision making skills
- To produce graduates with skills and qualifications for careers outside the traditional focus areas of Civil Engineering. Our graduates shall ensure sustainable development and be socially responsible
- A section of our graduates will pursue higher studies, and involve in research and development in the various branches of civil engineering
Outcomes
- The ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering in their chosen fields within civil engineering
- The ability to design and conduct experiments, and to analyze and interpret experimental results
- An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, Environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety
- manufacturability, and sustainability The ability to work as members of multi disciplinary project and/or research teams, and have an understanding of leadership
- An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility and the value of mentorship and peer support
Civil Engineering Association (CEA)
The Civil Engineering Association was created for the purpose of providing ample opportunities to the students to exhibit their talents in all the aspects. The Association organizes various activities and events, to unfold the prospects of Civil Engineering in the present day world. Industrial Visits, Talks by prominent experts in the field, acquainting the students about the recent developments in the Industry such as emerging building trends, software etc.
Conferences and Symposia
The Department organized two International Conferences namely ICFTCE to encourage research and education in the field of Civil Engineering and National Symposia to enlighten the budding engineers.
